Nominations Now Open after Successful First Year

A prestigious awards initiative which celebrates the achievements of women in business is returning for a second year in 2017.

Nominations are now open for the Woman Who Awards, which will be held in May to recognise inspirational women from across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull.

Woman Who is all about the impressive work of women in business as well as inspiring the rising stars of the future.  The awards are run in partnership with the Federation of Small Business (Warwickshire, Coventry & Solihull Region).

Each of the twelve categories shine a spotlight on their achievements across a range of areas including Women Who have founded a Start Up through to established Women in Business and Rising Stars who are still in education or training, working towards their first career.

Other categories in next year’s accolades include Women Who Export, those who achieve for a Charity or Social Enterprise and Women Who Innovate through Technology.

Finalists will be announced on International Women’s Day at the Woman Who…Network on 8th March sponsored by Coombe Abbey.   The awards lunch will once again take place in the impressive surroundings of Coombe Abbey on Friday 5th May.

Dr Sharon Redrobe OBE, CEO of Twycross Zoo and an award-wining Business Woman of the Year – who was a judge at the 2016 ceremony – has given her backing to next year’s event.

She said: “As a recent winner of a Women in Business Award, I know how intimidating it can be to apply for such accolades, but I would encourage women to continue to put themselves forward and celebrate their achievements. It was wonderful to see so many entrants from across the region.”

This year’s awards received more than 120 nominations with organisers anticipating an even greater number of entries for next year’s event.

The awards – which are free to enter – are all about celebrating a promotion, or starting up a new venture or maybe recognising those who have reached an impressive milestone.

The 2016 winner of the Woman Who….Inspires award, Helen Routledge, of Totem Learning, said she was delighted and proud to receive the prestigious accolade.

She added: “As a woman in STEM I was thrilled to be nominated and I feel incredibly proud to have been selected as the winner of the Woman Who….Inspires category. Games have inspired me throughout my life and through the use of game thinking and game design it is my hope that I can make the world a more playful place and reignite passion for learning.”

The Woman Who….Start Up award was this year presented to business partners Jude Jennison and Emma Taylor for their inspirational new venture, The Leadership Whisperers.

Jude said: “We were really excited to hear we won the Start-Up category and received the news in the midst of running a deep and powerful workshop for ten people.

“We never expected to win an award in our first year of business and we are delighted to have won this one as it recognises the courage and leadership we have shown in launching and leading a pioneering global business.

“Every day we take risks, make mistakes, recover and recalibrate and it’s wonderful to see this come to fruition and be recognised. A huge thank you to our extended team who support and inspire us behind the scenes and continue to enable us to grow a sustainable high growth business.”

The official launch of the Woman Who…Awards 2017 took place at the FSBs B2B Expo at The Belgrade, Coventry on Tuesday 10th January.

All entries must be received by Friday 24th February 2017.
