A Review by Richard Cornfield

Cotswold House Hotel and Spa offers a luxurious escape in the heart of picturesque Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire, having recently undergone a substantial refurbishment throughout, perfect for those visiting the Cotswolds for a weekend away to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that this unique hotel has to offer.

This month we had the opportunity to experience this stunning boutique hotel along with all of the facilities on offer. With a contemporary style, Cotswold House Hotel and Spa is known as one of the most idyllic country hotels in the UK, delivering exceptional service and the perfect location for a romantic getaway.

It had been a beautiful start to the weekend and on entering the Cotswolds, you gain this feeling of total relaxation, owing to the picturesque country settings and beautiful stone buildings. There is so much to explore and this was the perfect chance for my wife and I to relax and unwind on a busy Mother’s Day weekend. On arrival we were truly excited at how stylish and unique, this hotel appeared. It housed pure tranquility. Upon setting foot inside this beautiful building, we were greeted by a welcoming team at the hotel that checked us into our rooms for the evening.

On entering the rooms all I could say was “wow”, each bedroom had its own sense of individuality, plus our room had our own private outdoor terrace area, making it extra special, the perfect choice when watching the sun go down over a chilled glass of wine. The rooms had all been stylishly designed, with elegant features and opulent interiors, with a gorgeous mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, making the accommodation refreshing and offering all we had wished for and more. Plus, one of the main features that stood out was the freestanding bathtub, which could be enjoyed with a glass of fizz.

After visiting our rooms for the evening we took a look around the hotel itself to see what they had to offer. We had the chance to enjoy the onsite spa facilities, where attention to detail was second to none. The spa played host to some excellent features. Being small and intimate, this hotel makes the perfect chance to enjoy a spot of pampering, in order to recharge those batteries after a busy week in the office. The Spa was surprisingly different to what we expected, it had a warming ambience, whilst being hidden away at the top of the hotel’s landscaped garden. Secluded and away from the hustle and bustle, the Spa at the Cotswold House Hotel was more beautiful then we could have imagined. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to book treatments due to our later arrival, however the treatments would without a doubt enhance the overall experience, using the highly recommended Decleor products. The Spa facilities themselves included 7 treatment rooms, a hammam, hydrotherapy pool with Jacuzzi and relaxation area, along with aromatic steam rooms. We also had our very own complimentary robes and slippers, which were provided on arrival and if you like herbal teas, then these could be enjoyed at your own leisure.

In the evening we headed down to the hotel’s restaurant to dine in absolute style. With so much choice it was difficult to decide on the menu options. We were presented our menus and had decided to opt with the tapas starter selection, which consisted of a range of different dishes, including, marinated goats cheese and confit cherry tomatoes, stuffed peppers with feta cheese, mini chorizo with piquillo pepper puree, a bread selection and cheese and tomato Arancini Balls, served with a tomato puree. With hints of spice and Mediterranean style dining, this was the perfect choice for a light bite. After taking in the beautiful décor and catching up over drinks and a scrumptious starter, we were ready to enjoy our mains, we chose the Sea Trout, cooked to perfection, served alongside new potatoes and broccoli, and to finish drizzled with Hollandaise sauce. As a second choice we opted for the 8oz rump of beef, served with hand cut chips and a pepper sauce. Again, the steak was succulent and juicy, cooked just to my other half’s taste. Once we had let our mains go down, we decided it was only right that we ordered a dessert, in which case we went with the sticky toffee pudding, served with a butterscotch sauce and caramel ice cream, this dish was an absolute delight, with all of the gorgeous flavorings of caramel and toffee combined. The second dessert choice was the classic warm brownie served with vanilla ice cream; again this dish was absolute chocolate heaven.

After a fantastic evening meal we decided to retire to bed to enjoy our comfy and spectacular room after a fantastic stay at the Cotswold’s House Hotel and Spa. After a pleasant and restful night’s sleep, we woke up feeling truly refreshed and ready for the Mothers’ Day activities, before ending our fantastic overnight spa stay, we had a spot of breakfast, which set us up for the day, where we had the chance to enjoy a full English.

Overall we had a terrific overnight stay at the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa and we hope to return very soon for another stay at the welcoming and incredible hotel and spa that made our break away a weekend to remember.
