We had the chance to enjoy an evening watching Katie Melua perform her winter tour with Gori Women’s Choir on November 28th 2016.

Katie Melua performs at De Montfort Hall in Leicester 

 

This month we got the chance to attend Katie Meluas concer at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester. For this very special winter concert series, multi award-winning recording artist Katie Melua was joined on stage by the 23-piece Gori Women’s Choir. 

Masters of the ancient Georgian tradition of polyphonic singing, Gori Women’s Choir are described by Melua as a ‘completely unique vocal orchestra’. Together they performed new material from Melua’s forthcoming recording project as well as a selection of classic songs from her 6 album catalogues.

Gori Women’s Choir was founded in 1970 at Gori’s School of Music, and is lead and conducted by Teona Tsiramua. Georgian polyphonic singing has been designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Katie Melua released her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ in 2003. Since then she has released 5 further studio albums including 2013’s ‘Ketevan’ which is her birth name.
