A Knowle pub is toasting success for the very first time after winning the Campaign For Real Ale’s (CAMRA) prestigious Pub of the Year 2018 award (Solihull) – a little over 12 months after it first opened. The Ale Rooms on Knowle High Street, which launched in December 2016, was voted number one pub by members of CAMRA’s Solihull and district branch.

CAMRA is an independent, voluntary organisation which campaigns for real ale and cider, as well as protecting and promoting community pubs and clubs.

Since launching, Ale Rooms has consistently served up a range of traditional hand pulled ales with a strong focus on showcasing local brewers such as Silhill Brewery and Backyard Brewery. With four ale pumps, the Ale Rooms’ customers can savour Goat’s Milk, which was voted by CAMRA as Britain’s Champion Beer of the Year, Golden Glow, KSA, Pure Star and Backyard Blonde.

“I’m extremely proud and humble to receive this fantastic award. I’d like to thank the staff who all work very hard and are always going above and beyond to make The Ale Rooms the best it can be. A huge thanks to Churchend Brewery who provide us with Goats Milk, which is a real customer favourite, and also Sillhill Brewery who have been supplying us since we first opened." - Mark Caldicott, Ale Rooms owner

“The standard of the competition this year has been fantastic.  The judges were impressed with the quality of all the venues that made it to the final, but the Ale Rooms was the clear winner. Congratulations to Mark and everyone at the Ale Rooms – a well-deserved award and a great effort to win in its first year of opening.” - Carl Wright, CAMRA’s Solihull branch chairman

"In the near future I would love to open another Ale Rooms. I’ve entered into a franchise agreement so we are meeting potential franchises most weeks on discovery days held around the country. I’m also looking for an investor to help grow Ale Rooms quicker throughout 2018 and beyond - so the future is looking bright”. - Mark Caldicott, Ale Rooms owner

As well as serving locally brewed cask conditioned ales, the Knowle High Street venue also serves quality wines, including champagne and prosecco, alongside artisan rums, gins and vodkas and premium bottled lagers and ciders.
