The Magical Lantern Festival enters its second year in Birmingham following a hugely successful festival last year. Due to the exceptional demand for tickets, to accommodate more visitors, this year we will be open five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday each week and open every day during the Xmas holidays apart from Xmas Eve and Xmas Day.

This year's Christmas themed Lantern Festival will illuminate the park turning it into a spectacular fusion of dual culture, vibrant colours and artistic sculptures! Prepare to enter a magical experience and discover life-sized and large-than-life lanterns in all shapes and forms, from a Gingerbread House to a magnificent giant lantern recreation of the iconic Birmingham Central Library.

We promise visitors a truly amazing experience, a visual feast of light and illumination, hidden amongst the lanscaped grounds of one of Birmingham's largest city parks, which lends itself perfectly to the layout of the lanterns with its combination of lakes, woodland, gardens and pathways.

The festival will not only wow visitors with its beautiful hand-sculpted lanterns, the entertainment area adds another dimension to this wonderful night out with a food and drink area, Santa's Grotto, handful of fairground rides for children and merhandise marquee where visitors can buy a souvenir of their experience to take home. The festival is open from 5pm to 10pm with last entry at 9pm.

Children say hello to Santa in our magical, fully decorated, timber grotto experience. Meer the man from Lapland as he takes a break from flying around the globe delivering Xmas gifts. Every child will be given a present to take away with them as a souvenir for their experience. Santa's Magical Grotto will be charged separately, at £10 per child (includes gift).

It is recommended that you book in advance online, however during quieter times, visitors can pay on arrival to the grotto.

Visitors will experience a truly fascinating Lantern Trail as they explore the beautifully landscaped grounds of Kings Heath Park. The paths, greenery, bushes and trees will be illuminated with stunning hand-sculpted lanterns in all shapes and sizes. Along the route, visitors will uncover the multi-coloured lanterns at every twist and turn of the trail, offering amazing family photo opportunities and vividly lit scenery, making for a magical cultural Xmas experience.

Lantern highlights include:

  • Iconic Birmingham Central Library
  • Fairytale Castle
  • Polar Bears on Ice
  • Gingerbread House
  • Giant Phoenix

Mouth watering international cuisine and traditional street food will be on offer at this year's festival. There will be something for everyone to tuck into! Hot snacks and drinks stalls will keep you warm on your festival route.

There really is no better family-friendly festival to visit this Christmas.....
